Filter Insert Flushing Instructions

  1. Shut off the main water source to the water filtration system and the RV.
  2. Turn on and leave on the cold kitchen faucet to release the water pressure from the water filtration system.
  3. Pull up the locking clip at the front of the filter housing.
  4. Use the wrench included to turn the filter housing left to loosen and remove it.
  5. Remove the filter insert shrink wrap and place the filter insert inside the filter housing.
  6. Turn right the filter housing to tighten in position and push down the locking clip to secure it.
  7. Repeat steps #3-6 for the other stages of a multiple-stage filtration system.
  8. Turn on the main water source to the water filtration system and the RV.
  9. Run the water through the filtration system and flush for 5 minutes.
  10. Turn off the cold kitchen faucet.

Winterizing Instructions

  • DO NOT ALLOW FILTER HOUSING TO FREEZE!
  • Remove the filter insert before using anti-freeze to winterize the system.
  • Reinstall the empty filter housing back on the filter head/cap.
  • Proceed to winterize coach.
  • Flush filter housing thoroughly before it is put back into service after winterizing.
  • For best results, replace the filter insert seasonally.
  • Flush the new filter insert for approximately 5 minutes to remove any carbon particles.
  • Do not use filters where water is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality.
  • Maximum operating pressure is 100PSI/0.7Mpa
  • Maximum operating water temperature is 100°F/38°C
  • Critical Note:  1–2 tablespoons of unscented household bleach per gallon of water (≈ 50–100 ppm free chlorine), using a soft cloth to clean the housing and air-dry it. Not to exceed 200 ppm, and not to soak for more than 15 minutes. It can accelerate oxidation and embrittlement of the clear PET material housing over time.

Filtration System Flow Rate and Timing for Filter Change

  • The initial filtration system flow rate throughout- 2.64 GPM/10 LPM range at 45 psi/0.31 MPa incoming pressure. The flow rate decreases as the filter does its job and becomes clogged with the trapped impurity. The rate of decrease varies by water quality from place to place. When the flow rate decreases noticeably, it is time to replace the filter to maintain optimal water quality and the best user experience.

Protocol for a short-term 2-3 week Inactive Filter System (Remove or keep filter insert in place)

There is no definitive answer on which approach is the best, other than replacing the filter insert after it has been inactive for some time.

First of all, stagnant water for 2-3 weeks is not ideal. However, removing filter inserts from a filter housing filled with unfiltered/unclean water is not ideal either, since it can cause cross-contamination of the filter inserts.

Here are some logical approaches to handle the situations based on water quality and the life of the filter inserts.

  1. Run water for 5 minutes to flush the system after 2-3 weeks of inactivity before use. It may be a good procedure to revive the system if there are no taste or odor issues with the water.
  2. If removing the filter inserts during idle is a preferred option, it is highly recommended to discard the #1 PPC filter insert since it acts as the first line of defense of the filtration system and has trapped most of the impurity and bacteria. During filter insert removal, loose debris, impurities, and bacteria will likely break loose from the outer surface and mix with the unfiltered water in the filter housing, contaminating the inner surface. It may be a suitable procedure to thoroughly rinse the #2 CTO and #3 LCB filter inserts and air-dry both. Verify the system after reinstatement by running water for 5 minutes to flush the system. It may be a good procedure to revive the system if there are no taste or odor issues with the water.
